PERFORMING ARTS OPPORTUNITIES

BROADWAY MUSICAL THEATRE

In this 2 hour session every participant will experience the joy of producing a portion of a famous musical. We'll learn some spoken dialogue, a song, and choreography which made the show a hit! The vocal music will be made available a week before the session to help you feel the most comfortable. Each Broadway Musical Theatre session will conclude with a short public performance for your friends and family. You'll sign up for each session individually or all 3 sessions at a bargain price.

June 14 – Anything Goes

July 12 – Wicked

August 9 – Moulin Rouge

Times: 1:00-3:00pm

Ages: 8 and up*, Adults welcome! No previous experience required!

*Younger participants can be involved with a participating parent/guardian

Session Fee - $15 per session or all 3 sessions for $30

FIT FAMILIES FUN DANCE

Fit Families Dance Fun is an engaging, instructor-led dance fitness class designed to bring children (ages 4–11) and their parents/guardians together for an exciting and healthy activity. The classes emphasize bonding through movement while promoting fitness and fun for all participants. The low-intensity, follow-along format ensures accessibility for all skill levels and is structured to inspire joyful energy and teamwork. Fit Families Dance Fun aims to create a vibrant community that dances its way to better health.

Class Details:

Participants: Children ages 4–11 along with their parent/guardian, individuals ages 12+

Schedule: Wednesday’s 6:00 - 7:00 PM

Location: Square Canvas - 10 E Waterloo St Unit A, Canal Winchester

Dates: June 18, 2025 - July 23, 2025

Class Costs:

  • 1 Parent/Guardian + 1 Child: $80 for all 6 classes.

  • Additional Child: $30 for 6 weeks

  • Individual (12+): $60 for 6 weeks

Drop-In Option:

  • 1 Parent/Guardian + 1 Child: $15 per class

  • Additional child: $5 per session.

  • Individual (12+): $12 per class

COMMUNITY DRUM CIRCLE

Enjoy the amazing drum rhythms in our Community Drum Circle. In this fun informal experience, you'll learn basic drumming skills and the art of playing and listening to each other, in an improvisational, but informal setting. You’ll learn to build a community with other participants while being immersed in African and African Diasporic culture through their various drumming traditions.

​Ages: 6+ (Adults too) *12 and under is required to have a paid adult with then during the program.

Date: June 28, 2:00-3:30

Location: Stradley Park, 30 S High Street, Canal Winchester 43110

Session Fee: $20 per participant  

**All skill levels welcome! If you have your own African Drum, please bring it with you, otherwise there will be instruments there to use.

DISCOVER STEEL DRUM

Nothing is more infectious than the sound of a Steel Drum on a summer day. Canal Winchester has the oldest and most active Steel Band program in Central Ohio. We want you to join the fun. There's no previous music experience needed. We'll learn a few simple songs through imitation and simple notation. By the end we'll have a real Steel Band!

Ages: 10 and up

Dates: July 29 & August 2

Time: 2:00-3:30p,

Location: David's UCC, 80 W Columbus St.

Session Fee: $10 per participant.

HANDS ON HIP HOP EXPERIENCE

Experience four foundational elements of Hip Hop: DJing, B-boying (or Breakdancing), Emceeing, and Graffiti Art. This 90-minute event aims to immerse the participants in each aspect of Hip Hop culture through active participation.

Ages: 10 and up

Date: July 15, 6:30-8:00pm

Location: CW Community Center 

Session fee - $20 per participant

JAPANESE TAIKO & BRAZILIAN SAMBA

Discover the Drumming Music of different cultures with Eric 'The Fish' Paton. The 90-minute session will be split between Japanese Taiko and Brazilian Samba.

Taiko Workshop

This hands-on workshop will introduce Taiko, the festival drumming of Japan using movement, vocalization and stance. Taiko, brought to Japan by Chinese Buddhist monks, was made famous by Eitetsu Hayashi & the Kodo drummers of Sado Island. Each workshop incorporates a wide variety of information and meets the fine arts-music content standard for: Historical, Cultural and Social Contexts and Creative Expression and Communication.

Samba Workshop: The Carnival Percussion of Brazil

The parade music of Brazil includes drums and hand-held percussion instruments. This hands-on workshop will use observation, imitation, inquiry and discussion to teach parade rhythms of Brazil using agogo, tambourim and surdo. Each workshop incorporates a wide variety of information and meets the fine arts-music content standard for: Historical, Cultural and Social Contexts and Creative Expression and Communication.
